GC base pair

To view the DNA molecule on the left you require the Chemscape Chime plug-in with NetScape or Microsoft® Internet Explorer (requires Chime 2.0). If you can see the DNA molecule then you are ready to view the tutorial. The plug-in can be downloaded from MDL Information Systems, Inc.

The GC base pair is shown in stick form to highlight the bonds with the van der Waals radius shown as dots. It should be clear that there are three hydrogen bonds between the guanine and cytosine bases.

To highlight different parts of the base pair click one of the following options:
Reset and highlight all atoms
Phosphates
Deoxyribose
Guanine
Cytosine
Guanine and Cytosine
Show atoms that face into the Major (blue) and Minor (red) grooves, the C1 of deoxyribose is coloured green

To manipulate the model press and hold the left hand mouse button and drag to obtain the desired view. To alter the presentation of the image or stop the rotation click with the right hand mouse button and select one of the options.
