Simplifying Assumptions in Models of Complex Systems: Break, Make, Justify
Rob Clegg is leading a team of Birmingham PhD students organising a workshop on the simplifying assumptions made in models of complex systems, such as the microbial evolution and ecology we study in the Kreft group. The workshop aims to bring together researchers from a variety of scientific disciplines to share their experiences in breaking systems down to their simpler parts, making simplifying assumptions about these parts, and then justifying their simplifying assumptions to others.
The workshop will be held on the 7th May 2014 in the Biosciences Building. More information about the workshop can be found here.
Other team members are: Craig Holloway (Mathematics), Yishin Lin (Psychology), Nainesh Patel (Civil Engineering), and Alex Upton (Electrical Engineering).
