I am a PhD student and my project is focused on the analysis of protein-protein and protein-drug complexes by ambient native mass spectrometry (MS). This involves the development of liquid extraction surface analysis (LESA) MS and travelling wave ion mobility MS (TWIMS MS) analytical techniques to identify proteins in their native forms. The strong advantage of LESA and other ambient MS techniques is that the analyte requires little to no sample preparation, therefore the aim of the project is to develop ambient MS techniques to be used as a high throughput method for screening new pharmaceutical drugs.
